Engine Oil Type For Acura ILX 2018

Engine Oil Type For Acura ILX 2018, How Much Oil To Use.

The 2018 Acura ILX Owner's Manual recommends genuine Acura Motor Oil Premium-grade 0W-20 (viscosity) detergent oil with an API Certification Seal on the container. If you are changing the oil and the oil filter, you must use 4.6 US qt (4.4 L) of motor oil. If you are not changing the filter, use only  4.4 US qt (4.2 L).

This seal indicates the oil is energy conserving and that it meets the American Petroleum Institute’s latest requirements.

Oil is a major contributor to your engine's performance and longevity. If you drive the vehicle with insufficient or deteriorated oil, the engine may fail or be damaged. This seal indicates the oil is energy conserving and that it meets the American Petroleum Institute’s latest requirements. Use a Genuine Acura Motor Oil or another commercial engine oil of suitable viscosity for the ambient temperature as shown. You may also use synthetic motor oil if it is labeled with the API Certification Seal and is the specified viscosity grade.

Always use the best synthetic oil for your Acura ILX. Make sure it is appoved by Acura in order to maintain your warranty and extend your engine life. Also, always use an adequate oil filter for the type of oil you are using! When you are changing the oil in your Acura ILX, change the oil filter too! Don't go cheap on engine oil and oil filter, always buy the best for your car.

What Do The Engine Oil Viscosity Numbers Mean?

The viscosity of an oil is measured by its resistance to flow. There are two numbers that define your engine oil viscosity. The first number ends with the letter 'W', which stands for Winter. This measurement is related to how an oil flows when it is cold, such as at engine start-up. The second number is defined by how an oil flows at normal engine operating temperatures.

The smaller the number, the better it will flow. So a 5W-30 will flow easier than a 10W-30 at start-up temperatures and a 10W-30 will flow easier than a 10W-40 at normal engine operating temperatures. This is important, as engine oils naturally thicken as they cool and thin as they are heated. Thin, low viscosity oils flow easier to protect engine parts at cold temperature. Thick, high viscosity oils are typically better at maintaining film strength to protect engines at high temperatures.

Didn't Drive Your Car For A Long Time?

If your car has been sitting in the garage and you did not drive it for a few months, it is highly recommended that you change the oil. If your car doesn't start and you need to jump start it, look under the car to make sure there are no major oil leaks. When you jump start a car that has not been driven for long periods of time, you need to take all the precautions necessary to ensure that your engine is properly lubricated to avoid damage. Check the oil level as well to ensure there is sufficient oil in the engine before you jump start the car.
