2018 BMW X5 sDrive 35i RWD L6-3.0L Turbo Jump Start Procedure

If you have to jump start your 2018 BMW X5 sDrive 35i RWD L6-3.0L Turbo, it is important that to observe manufacturer's recommendations that are found in your BMW owner's manual. Here are some highlights of the jump start procedure :

  • Do not use any starting spray to start the engine.
  • Ensure that the line cross-section of the jumper cable is sufficient.
  • Use only fused jumper cables.
  • Check that the battery supplying current has 12V voltage.
  • If jump-starting is provided by another vehicle, ensure that there is no bodywork contact between the vehicles.

Attention! Do not touch any live parts of the ignition system, high voltage – mortal hazard!

If the battery of the vehicle providing current is low, start the engine and run at idle speed.

Procedure: the jump start procedure for the 2018 BMW X5 sDrive 35i RWD L6-3.0L Turbo, must be performed as described here, to ensure there is no vehicle damage or personal injury:

  • For automatic transmission, engage speed level “P”, apply parking brake.
  • For manual transmission, move gearshift lever to idle position, apply the parking brake.
  • Make sure that the jumper cable cannot come into contact with the rotating parts, e.g. fan.
  • First connect the two positive terminals of the batteries with a jumper cable (red).
  • For vehicles with batteries in the luggage compartment, use the remote positive terminal in the engine compartment.
  • Then, using the second jumper cable (black), connect the negative terminal of the battery supplying current to the grounding point (not the negative terminal or the body) of the vehicle to be started.

Attention! Do not connect the second jumper cable (black) to the negative terminal of the battery of the vehicle to be started. The resulting explosive gas could ignite due to spark formation.

Danger of explosion! If the engine of the vehicle being started has been started up, first disconnect the jumper cable between the negative terminal and grounding point. Then disconnect the jumper cable from the positive terminals.
