No Power BMW Dashboard

No Power BMW Dashboard? Here's Why And How To Fix It!

If you find yourself without lights on your BMW dashboard (instrument cluster) and none of the gauges available are working, there is no need to panic! This might have happened because you tried to jump start the car and did something wrong, or you have replaced the battery and did something wrong, or, you have tried to use a memory saver connected to a 12V battery and any of these actions caused a voltage spike, burning one of the fuses.

BMW Fuse 5 Amp

In most of the BMW models, there is a usually 5A fuse that protects the instrument cluster and OBD system. All you have to do is simply identify the fuse and replace it. For this, you have to follow these steps:

  • Consult your owner's manual and identify the exact position of the fuse for the instrument cluster. Usually, this is fuse F58, but this might differ from model to model.
  • Obtain the exact same fuse from your BMW dealership (it's not expensive at all).
  • Remove the burnt fuse with the plastic "plucker" (tweezers) available in your fuse panel. Make sure you don't break the fuse in the process, make sure you remove the proper fuse, and don't touch anything else.
  • Replace the fuse by placing the new fuse the exact same way the previous fuse was installed.
  • If you have installed a new battery, re-run the battery registration in your BMW vehicle.

Note: if you have a convertible model, usually the motor for the convertible top won't work either until you replace the instrument cluster fuse.
